Abstract

1441060 Wood-chipping machine MORBARK INDUSTRIES Inc 25 June 1974 [6 July 1973] 28059/74 Heading B5L Apparatus for reducing material such as trees, branches, brush &c. to chips comprises a frame F, a rotary shaft 22 mounted longitudinally on said frame, a chipper disc 32 fixed to the shaft the disc having a single radially extending through slot 36 and a radially extending knife blade 40 mounted adjacent said slot at an angle to the plane of the disc 32, a feed assembly 54 including a longitudinally extending feed bed and a feed roll 66 for feeding material to the chipper disc, and reversible drive means arranged to drive the feed roll at a feed rate which is proportional to the rotary speed of the chipper disc and is related to the rate of which the angled blade of the chipper disc can reduce material to chips. Fan blades 28 attached to the rear of the disc 32 and to the shaft 22 seve to blow the chips into a discharge shoot 20. A wall member 89 between two of the fan blades 28 serves to balance the chipper disc dynamically. The feed roll 66 is mounted to pivot about an axis b of a shaft 58 disposed to one side of the feed bed and is weighted downwardly against the feed material B by weights 82. A diesel engine 50 powers the drive to the chipper disc and to an hydraulic pump and motor circuit for the feed roll drive. The whole apparatus is preferably mounted on wheels 10.
