Abstract

1440060 Pistons ASSOCIATED ENG ITALY SpA 20 Sept 1973 [20 Sept 1972] 43460/72 Heading F2T In a piston in which the gudgeon pin bosses 17 are formed on extensions 16 depending from the piston crown 10 and spaced inwardly from the skirt 15, means are provided to reduce the normal thermal expansion of the piston between its thrust and non-thrust faces 20, 21. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, for a lighter metal piston, two arcuate steel inserts 18 extend around the inner surface of the skirt 15 between abutments 19 adjacent the thrust and non-thrust faces. The inserts 18 have holes 22 to allow fitting the gudgeon pin and may be either cast or pressed in position.
