Abstract

1502790 Pistons WELLWORTHY Ltd 12 Nov 1976 [18 Nov 1975] 47537/75 Heading F2T [Also in Division B3] A piston comprising a crown 1 attached to a piston body 2, e.g. of aluminium alloy by means of a peripheral band 8 of a thermally strain recoverable material, e.g. a nickel-titanium alloy, the band 8 having a portion 12b interengaging with the piston body 2 adjacent the crown 1. The crown 1 may be of steel, or ceramics, e.g. silicon nitride as in Fig. 2, or alternatively also of the thermally strain recoverable material and integral with the peripheral band 8, as in Fig. 1 (not shown).
