Abstract

1438476 Decorative paper-surfaced plywood TOYO BUSSAN CO Ltd 3 Jan 1975 247/75 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] A plywood base 11, having natural elongated narrow surface recesses 14, has bonded thereto by resinous adhesive 16 an overlay paper 17 of dry weight 17-30 g./m.<SP>2</SP> and dry thickness 35-50 microns which is colour-printed with a wood grain pattern and bears a heat-cured transparent resin coating 23, the paper 17 and coating 23 having recesses 14a, 14b corresponding to the recesses 14. The product may be made by coating the base 11 with a urea resin/ vinyl acetate polymer adhesive 16 which enters the recesses 14, partially drying the adhesive in an oven, pressing the paper thereon, applying a coating of amino-alkyd resin, and subjecting the assembly to further pressure and ovencuring to form the recesses 14a, 14b. Further recesses 14c may be applied by an embossing roller. The base 11 may contain grooves 25 which are painted to simulate a join between adjacent wood panels. The paper 17 may be semi-transparent and may have a smooth face surface and rough rear surface.
