Abstract

1438171 Covers for bolts, screws D P W PUCHY 10 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 32920/73 Heading F2H A cover for a bolt or screw head 4 comprises a resilient thermoplastics cap 1 having a crown portion 10 and a dependent skirt 11 with an internal annular flange 12 spaced inwardly from the base 13 of the skirt 11 to form with the crown portion an annular groove 14, and a cup-shaped resilient thermoplastics washer (2) having an internal annular flange 3 at its upper rim, the cap 1 being snap-engageable over the washer (2) so that the washer flange 3 is an interference fit in the cap groove 14, and the base 13 of the skirt 11 being elevated relative to the base 15 of the washer in the assembled condition. The cap may be permanently joined to the washer after fitting, e.g. by spinwelding. The washer may be a locking washer, its inner margin 5 being deformed against the bolt shank and against a workpiece 6 receiving the bolt as the bolt is tightened. The recess in the washer may be cylindrical or tapered, to suit the screw head shape to be accommodated.
