Abstract
1438011 Ethoxylated γ-branched alkanols JEFFERSON CHEMICAL CO Inc 29 May 1973 [7 June 1972] 25382/73 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2] The invention comprises one or more compounds (X) where w is 0 or 7-15, x and y are 1-15, such that the sum of x and y is 6-16, and mixtures thereof with one or more of the compounds (II), (III) or (IV) where u and v are O or 1-16, such that the sum of u and v is 6-16, n is 0 or 1-15, and m is 2-17 such that the sum of m and n is 7-17 and r, s and t are 0 or 1-15, their sum being 5-15. Compounds of the Formula (X) and its mixtures with compounds of the Formula (II), (III) and (IV) may be made by hydroformylating olefines of the formula where R and R<SP>1</SP> are C 2-14 linear alkyl group containing together a total of 8-18 carbon atoms and, ethoxylating the resulting alcohol. Compounds of the Formula (X) may also be made by reacting the above olefines with formaldehyde or its precursors and ethoxylating the resulting alcohol of the formula where R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are linear alkyl groups, R<SP>11</SP> having at least two carbon atoms, the groups R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> containing together a total of 7-17 carbon atoms. The compounds and mixtures of the invention are biodegradable surfactants and may be used in composition with known surfactants.
