Abstract

1453261 Optical brightening composition BAYER AG 14 March 1975 [16 March 1974] 10740/75 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions D1- D2] A composition useful in brightening fibrous materials comprises (I) fatty amine oxyalkylation products in which R is a C 10-22 alkyl or alkenyl radical, R 1 and R 2 are independently H or CH 3 ; n + m is 4-100 and Y is H or SO 3 M (M=H, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium or an organoammonium radical; R 3 is C 1-4 alkyl or in which R 4 and R 5 are independently H or OH and p + q is 1-3 or R 3 is a group in which n, m, R 2 , R 3 and Y are defined as above, or their quantization products, with the proviso that there is at least one -SO 3 M group per molecule; and (II) an optical brightener containing sulphonic acid groups of the stilbene series. Examples of II are bis-triazinyl- and bis - trazolyl - aminodisulphonic acid and bis - stilbenedisulphonic acid and salts thereof with alkali and alkaline earth metals and also ammonium and hydroxyalkyl ammonium salts. An example of I is prepared from 100 parts of a product, obtained by reacting equimolar amounts of stearylamide and #-hydroxyethanesulphonic acid, and 330 parts of ethylene oxide.
