Abstract

1437911 Automatic control XEROX CORP 16 Jan 1974 [18 Jan 1973] 1998/74 Heading G3N An apparatus for charging a surface comprises a corona generator and means for automatically regulating the generator to compensate for variation in charge acceptance of the surface as the temperature of the surface changes. As shown, a coronode wire 72 extends along the length of shield 70 and is spaced from a photo-conductive surface 12 of a drum 10 forming part of an electro-photographic printing machine. A thermistor 98, connected in parallel with a resistor 100, provides a temperature dependence substantially simulating the variation of charge acceptance of the photo-conductive surface. The voltage at a terminal 84 which is a function of the current through a resistor 88 and the simulation is compared with a reference voltage from a source 76. The error signal is amplified in an amplifier 78, the output of which varies the voltage generated by a high-voltage source 92 through an input controller 90, so as to tend to maintain at a uniform level the charge accepted by the surface 12.
