Abstract

1437587 Pipe couplings ZIEFLE AG 31 July 1974 [3 Sept 1973] 33862/74 Heading F2G An electrically insulating pipe coupling comprises a radially outwardly extending flange 3, integral with a pipe portion 1, to which is welded at 13 a tubular socket member 4 having a collar 5 at its free end extending radially inwardly, the other pipe portion 2 having an end flange 6 protruding radially outwardly being received between the flange 3 and the collar 5. On each side of the flange 6 are located two insulating rings 7 and 8 bearing also against the flange 3 and the collar 5 respectively, the interface therebetween being sealed in both cases by an 0-ring 9 located in an annular groove 10 in the end face of each flange. The socket member 4 is provided with an aperture 12 in its wall for the injection of an initially liquid rubber compound into the chamber 11, defined by the annular space between the flange 6, the socket member 4 and the two insulating rings 7 and 8, such that it subsequently sets to form a solid electrically insulating mass. The annular opening 14 between the collar 5 and the pipe 2 is grouted with an epoxy resin to provide electrical insulation therebetween.
