Abstract

1436906 Resistors PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Jan 1974 [25 Jan 1973] 00373/74 Heading HIS [Also in Division C7] A resistance element consists of an electrically insulating substrate bearing a coating of composition Ni, 74-90 wt. per cent; P, 5-12% and Zn, 5-14% and having resistance 100 to 10,000 ohms/square. In examples, ceramic rods are cleaned, contacted with aqueous solutions of (1) SnCl 2 , (2) AgNO 3 and then (3) PdCl 2 , and coated with the above alloy by electroless plating; the bath may have pH 8-11 and contain a soluble Ni salt, a soluble Zn salt and a soluble hypophosphite; immersion is for 20-40 minutes at 85-95‹ C. The resistance may be stabilized by post-heating at 220-300‹ C. for 5 min.-16 hrs., and increased, e.g. to 200 kohm by cutting a spiral in the resistance coating. The temperature coefficient of resistance is -100 to + 200 Î 10<SP>-6</SP> per ‹C.
