Abstract

1297200 Plating with metals WE LWYN ELECTRIC Ltd 19 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 20839/70 Heading C7F [Also in Division B6] A pattern of palladium, platinum, gold, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper or silver is formed on the surface of a substrate by offset printing onto the substrate a pattern of an offset printing ink containing dispersed on dissolved therein one or more of the above metals in powder form or in the form of a heat decomposable compound thereof (e. g. a resinate - other examples are given) and then heating the substrate to decompose the ink and leave a deposit of the metal or an oxide thereof. The heating is such as to at least partly reduce any oxide to metal. The substrate may be glass, ceramics or plastics material. The patterned substrate is subsequently electroleisly plated. In examples the substrate is plated with nickel - phosphorus alloy (from a nickel sulphate/sodium bypaphasphite bath), copper, cobalt and nickel.
