Abstract

1436876 Weft detector SINGER CO 8 Aug 1973 [29 Jan 1973] 37564/73 Heading DIE A system for determining the necessity for bobbin changing in a loom comprises a light source 32 and photocells 28, 30 adjustably mounted to sense light reflected from either the bobbin 36 (when empty) or the weft 50 thereon and wherein there is provided circuitry which can distinguish between scattered light received from an uneven weft circuit and received by both photocells equally and light reflected from an empty bobbin and received only by photocell 28. The photocell 28 comprises a pair of photocells 27, 29 and photocell 29 acts to sense the arrival of the weft to be sensed and prevent accidental operation by stray light. Control circuitry and power supply: Power supplied from a source 62 is first rectified by a circuit 63 and passes through a singe limiter 114 and isolating diode 114 which isolates the control circuitry 135-136 from a constant voltage lamp supply circuit 73 which energises lamp 32. The weft changing mechanism, indicated diagrammatically by means of a solenoid 60 comprises an inhibiter circuit 135 the functioning of which depends on the extra photocell 29 which senses the presence of the weft. If the weft or bobbin is .present then circuit 135 allows a comparator circuit to compare the outputs of photocells 27, 30. If these outputs are similar then the bobbin still has weft and a comparator circuit 134 remains in steady state. When the weft is exhausted the operates a multivibrator circuit 136 to change the bobbin through solenoid 60.
