Abstract

1404733 Surveying thread breakage in spinning machines HEBERLEIN HISPANO SA 3 Jan 1974 [4 Jan 1973] 00298/74 Heading D1F Apparatus for surveying thread breakage, which in use is cyclicaily moved along the individual stations of a spinning machine and is stopped by actuation of an arresting device when breakage, occurs, comprises for indirect sensing of breaking by monitoring traveller rotation, an electromagnetic thread sensor on a carriage at the level of the traveller or of a ring carrying the traveller, arranged to activate the device upon breakage. An electromagnetic position sensor on the carriage determines the actual relative position of the thread sensor with respect to the traveller or ring of each station. A switching device connected with the position sensor actuates the thread sensor during each passage past the traveller of a spinning station. The thread sensor 8 described comprises an induction coil arranged above a sensor coil -on an iron core common to both coils: The field of the induction coil is modulated upon passage of the core past a rotating traveller and thus a voltage is induced in the sensor coil, but no voltage is induced if the traveller is immobilised i.e. absence of signal voltage indicates thread breakage. In the course of operation of the the survey apparatus, upon approach to a station a circuit arrangement 14, Fig 4, for switching on the thread sensor is activated by position sensor 9 and the stop device is fed with a stop signal through a switching conductor 15. Sensor 8 normally also delivers its signal to stop device 16 through a filter 17 whereby device 16 continues to apply voltage to motor 18 for moving the carriage on to the next station. If sensor 8 emits no signal the supply to motor 18 is interrupted (since device 16 is then only fed by sensor 9) so that carriage stops. To ensure that traveller or ring is not magnetised (and thereby distort sensor signals) if carriage remains stationary beyond a set time, the sensor 9 may have a disconnecting device 19 which disconnects device 14, and therefor sensor 8, after a predetermined interval.
