Abstract

1436863 Casting processes BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 20 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 44267/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] A cobalt base alloy containing Cr 40-44À5% and C 2À1-2À6% (see Division C7) has a microstructure containing two eutectics of carbide phases in a metallic phase. The dispersed carbide phases are preferably present, at least in section, as fibres substantially parallel with each other (e.g. produced by oriented solidification). In the oriented solidification the growth rate is preferably at least 20 cm./hour and the temperature gradient, in the region of the solidification front is preferably at least 50‹ K./cm.
