1378819 Casting processes GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 29 March 1972 [29 April 1971 14 June 1971] 14687/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] Unidirectional solidification of nickel-base superalloys containing tantalum and carbon produces a casting in which tantalum carbide fibres are aligned in the metal matrix. In an example, the solidification rate is “ inch per hour in a temperature gradient of up to 200‹ F. per inch.
