Abstract

143,611. Fairfax, H. W. Gabbett-. Feb. 24, 1919. Barrels.-Consists in securing a detachable barrel by providing external grooves on the breech end of the barrel, and corresponding internal grooves on the breech-socket, these grooves forming seatings for wedges which are inserted in pairs therein and are provided with tightening and slackening means. In the form shown in plan in Fig. 2, as applied to a machine gun, the barrel A and breech-socket B are provided respectively with grooves D, E adapted to receive locking- wedges G, H secured to the gun by safety chains P. The pairs of wedges G, H are coupled by a sleeved member L, and the wedge H is capable of being displaced up or down with respect to the wedge G, to tighten or slacken the compound wedge in the grooves D, E, by turning a nut N co-operating with a slot O.
