Abstract

1436072 Grinding ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 19 Sept 1974 [26 Sept 1973] 40890/74 Heading B3D A grinder for driving a grinding wheel 7 comprises an elongate driven grinding spindle 6 rotatably mounted at one end in a bearing 5, the other end of the spindle being adapted to receive the grinding wheel, a longitudinal bore 21 in the spindle for supplying flushing liquid to the wheel, and means 22 for supplying the flushing liquid to the bore between the bearing and said other end of the spindle. As described, the grinder has a housing 4 for angle gearing which transmits drive from an electric motor in a housing 1 to the spindle 6 mounted in the ball bearing 5 in a flange 8. A recess in the flange receives a flushing head 9 having a central bore 10 for the passage of the spindle 6. A pair of oppositely-directed shaft seals 14, 15 form a chamber 16 which communicates with radial passages 22 in the spindle and a connector 19 having a cock connected to a supply hose 20 clipped to the grinder. The radial passage 22 connects with the longitudinal bore 21 in the spindle for supplying the flushing liquid to the grinding wheel 7. The bearing 5 is protected by a seal 18 and any liquid which passes the seal 14 can flow through recesses 23. In another embodiment, the seals which are of the annular lip type are replaced by stuffing boxes.
