Abstract

1435863 1 - [p - (4 - Quinolyl)amino benzoyl] - 4 - phenyl piperazines UPJOHN CO 11 June 1974 [15 June 1973] 25907/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel compounds of the Formula I and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof wherein R 1 and R 2 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or trihalomethyl and R 3 is hydrogen or alkyl, where the alkyl radicals in the above radicals have 1 to 4 carbonatoms may be prepared by condensing a 4-chloroquinoline II with a compound of the Formula III The intermediates of the Formula III wherein R 3 is hydrogen are prepared by reaction of an R 2 substituted aniline with diethanolamine to form an R 2 substituted 1-phenyl piperazine followed by condensation with p-nitrobenzoylchloride to yield 1-(p-nitrobenzoyl)-4-(R 2 substituted phenyl)piperazine and finally reduction of the nitro group to an amino group. Various R 1 substituted-4-chloroquinolines disclosed are prepared by known methods.
