Abstract

1435533 Backrest J B SMITH 30 Aug 1974 [8 June 1973] 27428/73 Heading A4J A backrest (e.g. for standing on a beach) comprises two substantially rectangular frames 1, 2, hinged together at one end and spaced apart at the other end by a pair of stays 5 inter-connected by a rod 7. The rod engages one of the notches 8 in the errected position but may be used as a carrying handle when the device is folded down. In the folded condition the frame 2 rests within frame 1. The backrest surface may be of slats 3, or natural or synthetic sheet or net or may be a lashed construction of leather or other thongs. The frame may be wood metal or plastics or a combination of materials.
