Abstract

1435313 Working at specified temperatures BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP 9 April 1973 [10 April 1972] 16849/73 Heading B3V [Also in Division C7] A hypoeutectoid steel containing 0À3-0À8% C is hot-rolled in the austenitic region, cooled to black, reheated, and worked in the temperature range of A 1 to (A 1 - 150 )‹ F., whereby there is produced a structure of dispersed spheroidal carbides in a ferrite matrix. The working should produce at least 60% reduction in crosssectional area. In a particular example, steel containing 0À39% C, 0À75% Mn and 0À18% Si was cast into 34 inch diameter moulds and bloomed to 4 inch square. After reduction to 2# Î 1¢ inches finishing at 1900‹ F. it was allowed to cool to 1200‹ F. and reduced by 60% to 1“ inch diameter, followed by heat treatment at 1300‹ F. for 5 hours.
