1434962 Wet processing animal skins FERENTZI & KESSLER 12 Nov 1973 [26 April 1973] 52360/73 Heading D1L Animal skins e.g. leathers or hides, are wet processed by passing the material between a part circular row of rollers and a common pressure roller bearing on all the rollers of the row. The row of rollers 3 may be immersed (see Fig. 1) in a semi-circular trough 1 of treatment liquor 3, the rollers being supported on springs 4. The common pressure roller 5, which is a hollow drum, bearing on the row of rollers may be filled with liquid to different depths 6 in order to vary the applied pressure. The row of rollers may be connected by levers to equalise the pressure applied. The feed of skins between the rollers of the row is aided by intermediate smaller driven support rollers 12. In another arrangement [Fig. 3 (not shown)] the treatment liquor may be applied by spray nozzles intermediate each roller of the row, instead of by using a trough. Pressure may be applied to the common pressure roller via a smaller roller bearing on the apex thereof. Alternatively the row of rollers 3 may be placed above the pressure roller (see Fig. 2) and the treatment liquor applied via nozzles 13 intermediate each roller, the rollers bearing on the common pressure roller and being pressure adjustable by springs 14. The surfaces of the pressure and support rollers may be rubber or felt and have spiral ridges, grooves, prongs or brushes.
