Abstract

1432852 Wet processing animal skins FERENTZI & KESSLER 13 Nov 1973 [25 May 1973] 52603/73 Heading D1L Animal skins e.g. leathers or hides, are wet processed by passing the skins through a straight row of pairs of squeezing rollers, one row of the rollers being fixedly mounted and driven, whilst the other row is mounted so that the pressure applied by each roller can be separately adjusted, support rollers of smaller diameter being located between rollers of one or both rows. The rows of rollers may be horizontal (Fig. 1) with the lower driven rollers 4A immersed in a treatment bath 1, the material passing from left to right under the adjustable pressure rollers 5A and being conveyed between each adjacent pair by smaller driven support rollers 8. A pair of end rollers 7 are provided to remove treatment liquor from the treated skins. Alternatively the rows of rollers may be vertical (Fig. 2) with the skins passing downwards between the driven rollers 4A and the adjustable pressure rollers 6A, treatment liquor being sprayed from nozzles 13 onto one or both sides of the skins as they leave each pair of squeezing rollers.
