Abstract

Chair plates; sleepers, securing rails to.-For securing metallic constructional members to reinforced-concrete structures, such as railway rails to sleepers, a curved bolt, passing through a hole formed in the concrete during moulding, is employed in conjunction with clamps to grip the rail &c. The rail is secured to the sleeper by clamps b, d, and a curved bolt which passes through a hole of oval cross-section moulded in the sleeper. The surfaces of the clamps are machined to stand at right-angles to the stem of the bolt. A wooden packing is interposed between the rail and the sleeper. Instead of a headed bolt, nuts may be employed at each end of the bolt. The hole in the sleeper may be lined with a wire coil embedded in the concrete, and a sheet of lead or lubricant may be interposed between the bolt and the wall of the hole.
