Abstract

14,758. Corell, H. J. July 18. Sleepers; rails, securing to sleepers; tie-bars ; rail joints. - Consists in providing short transverse sleepers, preferably made of vitrified clay, or metal, on each side of the track, and connecting them by tie-bars, which, together with clamps and fishplates, secure the rails in position on the sleepers. Fig. 1 shows the general arrangement of the parts and Fig. 2 a transverse sectional view through one of the sleepers. Each sleeper is formed with a longitudinal slot B in which the tie-bar C, having upturned ends D, fits. The rails rest on the sleepers; suitable cushions F being interposed if desired, and are secured against movement by the fish-plate G and clamp H. Shoulders P are formed on the clamps to engage the rail flange and cushion and the end Q may fit into a notch formed in the tie-bar. The aperture M' for the bolt L is made in the form of a slot so that the position of the bolt can be slightly varied. At rail joints two fishplates are used which may extend over two sleepers, or only one as in Fig. 4. The sleeper shown in Fig. 4 is formed with a longitudinal opening B<1> for the purpose of admitting the hand to tighten or slacken the bolt c. Fig. 8 shows a modified sleeper which is made in the form of a hollow metallic shell.
