Abstract

1434948 High strength steel SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Sept 1973 [19 Sept 1972] 43614/73 Heading C7A A steel having in the quenched and tempered condition a tensile strength of at least 100 Kg/ mm<SP>2</SP> and improved resistance to delayed failure of composition:- Cr 0 to 2% C 0À05 to 0À4% Mn 0À2 to 3À0% Si 0À05 to 1À5% Mo 0À5 to 5À0% and (0À5 to 5% Cu) and/or (0À5 to 8À0% Ni + 0À05 to 3% Al), balance iron provided that % Cu #0À55 (2À1 x Mo % + Cu%) and/or % Ni # 0À55 (1À6 x Mo % + Ni%). The steel may be heat treated at 900 to 1200‹C for 30 minutes to 3 hours, water or oil quenched and tempered at 450 to 650‹C for up to 20 hours and water or oil quenched and used for the manufacture of high tension bolts and pre-stressed concrete steel bars.
