Abstract

1434541 Refrigeration; heating liquids in bulk EXETER REFRIGERATION CO Ltd 11 Feb 1974 [15 Jan 1973] 2024/73 Headings F4H and F4S A combined refrigeration and water heating system for a dairy comprises a bulk milk storage tank; a refrigeration unit having a compressor 5, a pre-condenser 6, a condenser 3 and an evaporator 4 in heat exchange contact with a bulk milk storage tank; a water supply tank 7 within which is disposed the pre-condenser 6, and an electric water heater 14 with a duct 13 for conducting preheated water from the top of the tank 7 to the water heater 14. The electric water heater 14 is heated by an electric immersion heater 15. The water supply tank has a float valve 12 and a warm water outlet 16 in the bottom of the tank. In use of the system, heat derived from the operation of the refrigeration unit is utilized to both preheat water for an electric water heater and to obtain warm water for udder washing purposes. An adjustable pressure reducing valve 8 is included in the refrigeration unit.
