Abstract
1434419 Guide rollers for haulage ropes R B BOLTON 8 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 34821/73 Heading B8B A guide roller for a haulage rope has a boss at each end, formed with a pair of spiral helical grooves 10, 12 which cross each other to feed back on to the cylindrical centre portion of the roller, any rope which has laterally departed therefrom, irrespective of the direction of movement of the rope. Upstanding projections, in the form or ridges 28 extending transversely of the grooves 10, 12, or in the form of studs, facilitate frictional grip between the rope and boss to ensure that the moving rope, having departed from the roller cylindrical portion, rotates the boss causing the rope to be fed along the spiral helical groove back on to the cylindrical portion. Each groove 10, 12 starts at a common point 16 of minimum radius at the outer end of the boss, and diametrically opposite the point 16 the two grooves cross over each other at a point 18 and continue up to their maximum radius which is just above the surface of the cylindrical portion of the roller.
