Abstract
1461672 Cleat R J EMERY 7 Jan 1975 [11 Jan 1974] 01451/74 Heading E2A A jamming cleat 20, Figs. 2 and 3, for securing both ends of a cord comprises a body 24 having a head H and a tail T, a pair of walls 27, 28 integral with the body 24 and extending away therefrom at a 'V' angle of between 8 and 20 degrees to form a groove 29 for reception of the cord, each wall 27 or 28 having a ridge 30 or 31 which slopes away from the trough 32 of the groove 29, towards the head H, at an angle of between 20 and 50 degrees an anchorage 35 on the body for one end of the cord, and a fairlead 33 through which the other end of the cord may be passed for removable engagement in the groove 29. In use a knot 36 of the cord is positioned in the anchorage 35, the cord then being passed around the item to be fastened and threaded through the fairlead 33. The cord is drawn tight, is moved into the groove 29 and is gripped by the ridges 30, 31. Release is effected by moving the loose end 38 of the cord out of contact with the ridges. In other embodiments a cleat 40, Figs. 4 and 5, is provided with ridges 41 and with a groove 29A, the transverse width of which diminishes from the tail to the head; a cleat 42, Fig. 6, has a slot 44 which can receive a cord 43; and a cleat 45, Fig. 7, has both ends of a cord removably engaged therein.
