Abstract

1,009,739. Screw conveyers. O. OHRNEL. July 9, 1963 [July 12, 1962], No. 27206/63. Heading B7L. A conveyer has a rail car 4 propelled by a rotary screw 1 disposed beneath car 4 and between the rails 2, 3 thereof, the portion 9 of the car which conforms to and is engaged by the screw, being of a length corresponding to several pitches of the screw and having at its middle a recess 10 corresponding in length to at least one pitch. The screw rotates in bearings 8 and comprises several sections joined by universal joints at points where the screw changes direction, the recess 10 being arcuate to accommodate the universal joints at the bends. Loads can be suspended on hooks from bore 13. The car can be tipped upside down and will run on rails 2, 3 clear of the screw.
