Abstract
1305770 Rolling tubes SUPERIOR TUBE CO 24 July 1970 [29 July 1969 7 July 1970] 36043/70 Heading B3M The tube rolling mill of Specification 1,305,769 has each of the rolls of the roll housing formed with a grooved circumference shaped to engage the tube at two separate areas over substantially the whole of the working stroke. The groove has a constant cross-section all round the roll. This cross-section comprises a central curved part 81 with a centre of curvature 83 equal to or slightly less than the smallest outside radius the roll is designed to contact. The outer parts are formed by straight line or curved segments 89, 91. The two areas of contact 85, 87 gradually move together and merge during a working stroke. The segments 89, 91 may be convex or concave when they are curved but the groove edges 97, 99 must be spaced from the tube. These edges may be rounded.
