Abstract

1434014 Web roll supports BRITISH STEEL CORP 4 June 1973 [5 June 1972] 26090/72 Heading B8R A web roll support comprises two sets of idler rollers 18<SP>1</SP>, 201 and 381, 40<SP>1</SP>, and at least one driven roller 16<SP>1</SP>, the width of the coilcontacting surface of each idler roller constituting a minor portion only of the axial span of the roller assembly. The shafts 22<SP>1</SP>, 35<SP>1</SP> may be fixed and the rollers journalled by means of bearings or sleeves which may be lined with PTFE. The rollers may be cylindrical or frusto-conical with the tapering portions facing in axially outward direction. For self-centering of the web roll the frustoconical rollers 18<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP>, 38<SP>1</SP>, 40<SP>1</SP> are mounted on self-aligning bearings (46, Fig. 6, not shown) and the increased radius of the tilted roller periphery restores the transversely displaced roll 10 to its original centred position.
