Abstract
1433663 Corona discharging apparatus XEROX CORP 20 Feb 1974 [22 Feb 1973] 7764/74 Heading G2H [Also in Division H1] A wire 12 connected to a high voltage source 18 to provide corona emission is also connected across a low voltage high current source 30 which heats the wire to incandescence to provide simultaneous electrical corona and luminous discharge of an electostatically charged body, e.g. a xerographic photoreceptor drum 13. The source 30 is protected from the high voltage of source 18 by capacitors 32 and 33. Connections are effected in the interiors of insulating e.g. plastics blocks 14 and 16 provided with insulating set screws 22 and 24. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the corona wire is partially surrounded by a shield which in addition to acting as a conventional corotron shield acts also as an optical reflector. An opening in the shield may be so orientated that the area undergoing electrical discharge and the area undergoing discharge by exposure to light do not coincide. The heating current in this embodiment is supplied by a transformer.
