Abstract
1434863 Corona charging apparatus XEROX CORP 9 Jan 1974 [11 Jan 1973] 01040/74 Heading H1X Apparatus for generating a corona comprises a corona discharge electrode 84 in an open-sided chamber defined by a shield having a substantially non-conductive inner member 70 and a substantially conductive outer member 72 having inwardly projecting portions 76 or 92 which intercept and regulate the discharge. The electrode 84 which may be of tungsten with a tungsten oxide coating is attached to insulating plates (not shown), e.g. of glass or plastics closing the ends of the chamber. Outer member 72, which may be an aluminium extrusion, is supported from inner member 70, e.g. by a plurality of brackets (not shown) to define a conduit 74 through which air is blown via a duct 90. Lips 76 and 78 are made of conductive material, e.g. aluminium and may be either earthed or biased to a suitable potential. The apparatus is mounted in an electrophotographic colour printing machine (Fig. 1, not shown) to charge a photoconductive surface to a substantially uniform potential.
