Abstract
1369154 Corona charging apparatus RANK XEROX Ltd 18 Jan 1972 [20 Jan 1971] 2286/71 Heading H1X [Also in Division G2] A corona discharge apparatus, which in use is employed to charge a photoconductive member 1, comprises at least one corona wire 5, a conductive shield 6 or 20 and an insulating member 9 or 24, with means whereby the distance from the wire 5 to the insulating member can be varied. For example, the insulating member 24 can be brought in to surround the wire 5, and cut off the corona discharge without disconnection of the high-voltage supply feeding it. Alternatively an array of wires 5 and shields 6 may be mounted to revolve about an axis 7 within an apertured insulating casing 9, so that as each wire 5 approaches the lip of the casing its discharge is quenched, and the photoconductive member 1 receives an even exposure from the corona wires without any need to cut off the current to them while they are on that part of their path which is remote from the member 1.
