Abstract

1433597 Safety closures METAL BOX Ltd 9 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 34120/72 Heading B8T A safety closure consists of a cap (or plug) 10 having an inset flap 14, flush with its outer surface and frangibly welded or glued along at least one of the edges 20 to the cap, and integrally hinged along one edge 16 to the cap. The cap is removed by inserting a fingernail into the recess 18 and pulling the flap up thus breaking the welded or glued seal, then by means of the raised flap, pulling the whole closure bodily off the container. In modifications the closure is formed as a plug, Figs. 4-9 (not shown) or, Figs. 10-13 (not shown), in addition to the welded or glued seal a lug (10) may be joined to the plug by a frangible portion (102); or, Figs. 14-15 (not shown), the closure skirt may be an interference fit in a container mouth.
