Abstract

1473905 Tamper-indicating container closure ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 22 Aug 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 36865/74 Heading B8T A plastics container body 10 has at its open end a vertical wall 22 joined through a top wall 24 to a depending outer wall 26a, 26b which terminates in an upwardly facing trough formation 28, 30, and is provided with a plastics cover 12 having an inner wall 14 joined to an outer wall 18 by a top wall 16, the cover outer wall projecting into the body trough formation and the cover and body inner walls co-operating in an interlocking fit, and a line of weakness being provided at the apex of the groove 34 in the body top wall 24. The groove may be continuous or discontinuous at spaced locations and may be in the underface (Fig. 2) or the upper face of the top wall 24 or may comprise opposed grooves in opposite faces of the top wall 24. Application of an upwardly directed force on the underside of the wall 28 causes severing along the line of weakness and the cover is forced out of contact with the container body. The cover may be reapplied but the removal of the trough formation during the severing operation is tamper-indicating.
