Abstract

1433550 Ignition systems DUCELLIER & CIE 13 Nov 1973 [5 Dec 1972] 52683/73 Heading F1B In an ignition system for an internalcombustion engine there are provided two contact breakers connected respectively to a pair of coils 5, 6 arranged in use to feed high tension current respectively to at least one pair of sparking plugs 7, 8, each contact breaker having a movable contact 3 or 4 mounted on a contact breaker arm and a pair of further contacts 3a, 3b or 4a, 4b between which the movable contact is movable, one contact 3a or 4a of the further pair of contacts of each contact breaker being connected directly to earth and the other contact being connected to earth via a contactor 9, 9a or 9b which is arranged so as in use to be closed during normal running of the associated engine but to be connected to means for opening the contactor during deceleration or idling of the engine. There may be a single cam engageable with the two contact breaker arms and a single contactor 9 or a pair of contactors 9a, 9b associated with the other contacts of the two contact breakers. The or each contactor may be bridged by a resistor 10 or a Zener diode 11 forming a protective circuit for preventing or reducing arcing on operation of the contactor.
