1433250 Worm-gearing; change-speed gear SOC ENGRENAGES DURAND 18 Oct 1973 48594/73 Headings F2Q and F2D A worm reducing-gear comprises a housing formed from two halves 5, which join in the plane including the axis of the worm 1, a partition 8 in the housing separating the worm 1 and wheel 2 from a reducing gear train 11, 12, 13, 14 between an input shaft 17 and the shaft 16 of the worm 1, the housing defining three aligned apertures for the bearing 21 of input shaft 17 and the bearings 20 of the shaft 16 and two aligned apertures for the bearings 23 of the shaft supporting the pinions 12 and 13. Pinion 14 is rotatably mounted relative to shaft 17 by a bearing 22. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4, the input shaft 17a passes through the shaft 16a of the worm 1a and can be clutched to it by a clutch 24 and a further clutch 25 can clutch gear 12a to the shaft 15a of gear 13a so that with clutch 24 engaged and clutch 25 disengaged shaft 16a is driven direct from shaft 17a, and with clutch 25 engaged and clutch 24 disengaged the operation is as with the embodiment of Fig. 1, with both clutches engaged the worm 1a and shaft 17a are braked, and with neither engaged no drive is transmitted.
