Abstract

1432932 Projectile fuzes DIEHL 21 Jan 1975 [4 Feb 1974] 2520/75 Heading F3A A base, central or nose fuze with a selfdestruction mechanism for a spinning projectile, comprises: a pivoted lever 17 locking a spring- loaded striker 19; a pivoted catch 8 engaging a free end 15 of the lever to retain it in its locking position; a strut 13 preventing clockwise movement of the catch under the action of a spring 10; a centrifugal mass 9 carried by the catch; and a cam 28 carried by an inertia member 25. When a projectile fitted with the fuze is launched, the catch, under the action of centrifugal forces, moves anti-clockwise to permanently disengage the strut 13; but the lever 17 is retained, until, on impact with the target, the member 25 is thrown or swung forwards and the cam 28 drives the catch 8 clockwise against the action of centrifugal forces so that the end 14 of the catch disengages the locking lever 17. A spring 22 then drives the striker 19 into a detonator 3. In the event of a miss, selfdestruction occurs when the spring 10 overcomes the centrifugal forces acting on the catch. In a nose fuze, Fig. 4 (not shown), the cam surface (49) is motivated by a plunger (51) that is driven inwards on impact with the target.
