Abstract
1429117 Projectile fuzes DIEHL 4 Oct 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 43247/74 Heading F3A A base fuze for a spun projectile comprises a firing pin 29, Fig. 1, which upon target impact is pushed into a detonator 35 by its own inertia, or else, after the exceeding of a predetermined flight duration, is pushed into the detonator by a spring 26, which is releasable via a spindependent destructor mechanism, the spring 26 being arranged on a shank 16, a shoulder 17 of which is engaged by a pivoted locking lever 14 which, in its locking position, is overlapped by a lug 18, Fig. 3. The lever 14 is pivoted at 7 and is engaged with the hooked end 9 of a lever 8 carrying an inertia mass 12. Inward movement of the lever 8 under the action of a spring 13 is prevented by a support 11. A segmented sleeve 39, Fig. 1, surrounded by a coiled band 38, blocks the firing pin. In operation, the arm 8 swings outwardly owing to centrifugal force and releases the support 11 but moves inwards again under the action of spring 13 when the spin of the projectile is sufficiently reduced and thereby unhooks the arm 14 so as to release the spring 26. The firing pin, meanwhile, is unblocked by the unwinding of band 38 and the release of segments 39.
