1432594 Transforming workpieces L SCHULER GmbH 22 Aug 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 39726/73 Heading B3W A device for bridging a variable gap between two work stations comprises a plurality of spaced, generally parallel belts or chains adapted to extend across the gap to form a support for workpieces passing between the work stations. As shown, chains 3 extend from anchorages 9 on a shear 2 over pulleys 4 on shear 1, round pulleys 6 on blocks 7 weighted at 17 and pulleys 5 and back to blocks carrying the pulleys 6 and weights 7. The shear 1 is movable parallel with the feed direction of the workpieces and both shears are angularly movable, Fig. 2. The anchorages 8 and 9 are swivel-mounted to accommodate this movement. The links of the chains, which can act as supports for workpieces such as strip lengths, and the anchorages 8 or 9 carry ball bearings 10 to guide the workpieces when the belts are not parallel to the feed direction. The anchorages 8 and 9 also have guide rails 11.
