Abstract
1432497 Fire-hose nozzles J P R MICHARD 7 Dec 1973 [11 Jan 1973] 56950/73 Heading B2F [Also in Divisions A5 and A6] A nozzle, of brass or a light alloy, adapted for attachment to a fire-resistant hose, comprises an ogival-shaped hollow body 10 which is symmetrical about a longitudinal axis XX' and includes a supply duct 12 extending in the direction of fluid inflow and connected to conduits 13 opening into orifices 14 at the rear exterior of the body where they diverge rearwardly away from the longitudinal axis by not more than 5‹, and propel the nozzle, and to two sets of lateral conduits, those 17 of one being obliquely disposed with respect to said axis and those 16 of the other, being radially disposed, extending towards the lateral exterior of the body, and having diameters less than those of conduits 13. Communicating with these orifices are longitudinal partitioning cells 15 which open out from the duct 12. The nozzle for use particularly with water for fighting a fire in a plastics material or a stored combustible liquid, causes the majority of fluid to be deflected in the opposite direction to fluid flow into the hose through conduit 13, the remainder of the fluid being sprayed from orifices 16, 17. Fluid sprayed from the obliquely directed orifices 17 towards the rear of the nozzle assists in the self propulsion and self support of the nozzle, whereas fluid sprayed from orifices 16 establishes a fluid screen.
