Abstract

1432091 Treating heavy metal containing residues HITACHI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 18 Feb 1974 [19 Feb 1973] 7198/74 Heading C1J Residues containing heavy metal oxides or other heavy metal compounds which form oxides when fired are mixed with 0À5-3 parts by weight of powdery iron oxide and/or powdery clay and 0À1-1À0 parts by weight based on the anhydrous form of water glass per one part by dry weight of the residue and are then fired at 700-1300‹ C. to form a sintered mass containing heavy metal ferrite and/or heavy metal silicate and heavy metal containing glass. Various residues are described. The clay may be a kaolinite, montmorillonite, pyrophyllite, chlorite, Gairome clay, shale or pottery stone. Examples 5 to 9 describe the production of clinker from chromium plating waste, kaolin and water glass (also rouge in Example 7), by mixing, granulation, drying and firing.
