Abstract
1431987 Lift truck SASEBO HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO Ltd and OSAKA JACK MFG CO Ltd 24 May 1973 [24 May 1972 (3)] 25001/73 Heading B8H [Also in Division B7] A self propelled rail mounted truck, for the installation or removal of a rudder or propeller on or from a ship in a dock, comprises a chassis 1 with pivotally mounted wheeled units 5, and jacks 12 to raise the chassis clear of the rails. Guide frames 4a-4d are vertically mounted on the chassis to provide guidance for pillars 2a-2d, and a rudder support platform secured thereto, which are moved by jacks 9a-9d. Jacks 8a-8g clamp the rudder in position on the table and by suitable manipulation control the lateral inclination and position thereof. Further jacks 11 on the table 3 provide for vertical adjustment of the rudder relative to the table and control the inclination of the rudder from stem to stem. In operation the rudder is loaded upon the truck which then moves along rails 6 set in the dock floor. When a crossing is encountered the jacks 12 are actuated to raise the chassis to allow the wheeled units to be rotated through 90 degrees into alignment with the other rails. The jacks are then lowered and the truck is advanced towards the ship. By appropriate manipulation of the jacks on the truck, the rudder is then aligned with the mounting on the ship. In another embodiment, Figs. 5A, 5B (not shown), the truck has a first pair of pillars (110a), (110b) pivotable in directions away from each other and a pair of pillars (111a), (111b) slidable on the truck towards the first pair of pillars. Propeller supports (115,) (116) extend between respective pillars for vertical movement therealong and are acted upon by jacks (117) to adjust the vertical inclination of the axis of the propeller and have jacks (121a), (121b), (120a), (120b) to adjust the horizontal inclination of the axis of the propeller. In a further embodiment, Figs. 8A, 8B (not shown), the truck is suitable for handling a rudder or a propeller and comprises guide frames (4a- 4d) with pillars (2a-2d) vertically movable relative thereto or lockable therewith. A rudder support table (3) is secured to the bottom of the pillars and propeller supports (25), (26) are releasably mounted to extend between the pillar. An hydraulic control circuit, Fig. 7 (not shown), is described which includes a safety cut-out should any of the jacks (9a-9d) get out of phase.
