Abstract

1431402 Endless track amphibious craft H J RIVET 16 Jan 1974 [39 Aug 1973] 02024/74 Headings B7A and B7H An amphibious craft comprises a pair of spaced, parallel, transversely aligned buoyant pontoons 11, 12, an endless track surrounding each pontoon and comprising endless chains 20, 21 connected by transverse channel members 23 and longitudinal channels (25) (not shown) located on the top and bottom of each pontoon and in which slide blocks 24 attached to the webs of the members 23. The channels 25 are filled with a plastics material having a low coefficient of friction and the blocks 24 are also made of similar material to reduce friction and wear. The endless tracks are driven from respective hydraulic motors 27, chains 26 and sprockets which are keyed on to shafts 16, the shafts 16 carrying sprockets 17 engaging the chains 20, 21 and being journalled in bearings 18. The interior of each pontoon is divided into a plurality of water-tight buoyancy chambers by transverse interior bulkheads and a plurality of transverse I beams are located on the inner surface of each pontoon's bottom for strength purposes. The craft, as described, has a lifting frame 30 raised and lowered by hydraulic cylinders 31, and a winch 32 for a cable 33.
