Abstract
1,241,733. Sectional hopper barges. DBP DREDGE & MARINE Ltd. 17 March, 1970 [17 March, 1969], No. 13844/69. Heading B7A. A hopper barge is constructed of prefabricated units separably joined together to facilitate transporting of the barge between working sites. Each hull section is fabricated as a buoyant and stiff tank with steel ribs, stringers, plating and bulkheads, flanges being provided for bolting the sections together, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). The barge comprises side hull sections 1 to 4, and bow and stern sections 8, 12 defining a hold. The bottom of the hold comprises a frame 13, and a keelson 14 joined to sections 8, 12. Downwardly-opening doors 15 are hinged on keelson 14 and controlled by hydraulic jack-operated cables running over sheaves 17. A vertical tunnel 18 through stern section 12 can accommodate the drive shaft of a propulsion unit.
