Abstract

1431401 Apparatus for taking gas samples in shaft furnaces DES ANCIENS ETABS PAUL WURTH SA 23 Aug 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 40062/73 Heading G1B Apparatus for taking gas samples in shaft furnaces, particularly blast furnaces, comprises an elongate probe 2 introduced and removed radially in the furnace 4 provided over its longitudinal axis with a plurality of apertures 18 to 34 each being connected with a gas sampling pipe 36 to 52 for simultaneously taking gas samples at several points over the furnace diameter, and a vibrator 10 associated with the probe to facilitate its movement into the furnace charge. Preferably the probe comprises a plurality of gas sampling pipes arranged inside an outer cylindrical protective casing 16 around a ceritral supporting tube 54 coaxial therewith, means for circulating cooling water in the central supporting tube and the free interspace 58 between the central tube and the cylindrical protective casing which is not occupied by the gas sampling pipes. Each gas sampling pipe is preferably associated with a thermocouple and/or a manometer. All the sampling pipes may run parallel to one another whereby the gas inlet apertures are angularly and longitudinally displaced relative to one another or the gas sampling pipes may be stranded together so that all the gas inlet apertures are in one plane.
