Abstract

1430266 Expansion systems RAPIDODINSING-WERK GmbH 12 March 1973 [13 March 1972 16 Jan 1973] 11850/73 Heading F4U A method of accommodating the expansion liquid from a pressurized closed liquid circuit heating system 12, 14 includes the steps of storing a first portion of the expansion liquid, which occurs on heating up of the liquid in the heating system from cold, in one or more pressurized accumulator tanks 16; and storing a second portion of the expansion liquid, produced after the system has reached a first preset pressure level, in one or more unpressurized expansion tanks 24. A relief valve 22 monitors the first preset pressure level. Stored liquid in the tanks 24 is automatically pumped back by a pump 28 into the heating system when the system pressure falls below a second lower preset level; a pressure valve 26 controlling the operation of the motor 27 of the pump 28. As shown in Fig. 2, for a small heating system one tank 16 and one tank 24 may be provided. The apparatus includes a pipe 38 for connecting the apparatus to a heating system; a pump 37; a branch pipe 42 leading to a pressure relief valve 43 and to an unpressurized expansion tank 46: the expansion tank 46 including a diaphragm 48; a branch pipe 51 leading to a pressurized accumulator tank 64 having a diaphragm 66; a vent opening 73; a check valve 60 and a pressure switch 70 for the pump 37. To increase the capacity of the arrangement, one or more units can be coupled to the apparatus shown in Fig. 2, by means of connecting flanges 41, 50. These units have no pump 37, relief valve 43, pressure switch 70, non-return valve 60 or pipe sections 42, 59 since they share the pump and valve arrangements of the unit of Fig. 2.
