Abstract

1429689 Spatula ARMOUR PHARMACEUTICAL CO Ltd and L HUGHES 6 June 1973 27101/73 Heading A5R A one-piece moulded cervical spatula comprises a rigid elongated stem 1 having a rodlike centre portion 2, a rod-like handle 5 at one end, and at the other end a flat scrapetaking member 6 having shoulder portions 8, 9, wider in plan view than the stem, and a projection 7 having a rounded end and sides 10 which curve to meet the shoulder portions. In one embodiment the rounded end of projection 7 may have a radius of about 3.0 mm. and side curves 10 of about 5.0 mm radius. The scrape-taking member 6 may be about 1.5 mm in thickness, trilobal in plan view and the axes of the projection 7 and shoulder lobes may meet perpendicularly. The handle may be between 4.0 and 4.25 mm. in diameter. Flanges 3, 4, may extend from the handle to the scrape-taking member or along at least part of the length thereof. The spatula may be of high density polythene, high density polypropylene, nylon, high or medium impact polystyrene. The scrape-taking member 6 has sharp edges (12) Fig. 2 (not shown) whilst the remaining edges are radiussed.
