1296543 Teeth cleaning and polishing apparatus PAT AXELSSON 15 Oct 1969 [16 Oct 1968] 50766/69 Heading A5R An apparatus for cleaning or polishing adjacent faces of the teeth comprises an elongate member 25, Fig. 1, held, but being free to turn about its axis, in a head portion 13 of an elongate handle 11, the axis of the member 25 being generally transverse to the axis of the handle 11. A generally cylindrical hole (15) Fig. 3 (not shown) is formed in the portion 13 and a suitable rotatable socket member (19) is attached therein within which a shank portion 27, Fig. 5, of the member 25 is force-fitted and frictionally held. The member 25 comprises circular shoulder 33 eccentric to the shank 27 and an elongated generally triangular working portion 29 designed by insertion into teeth interstices and comprising two concave, symmetrical faces 35 and (37) Fig. 8 (not shown), and a smaller concave third face (39). The member generally tapers with increasing distance from the shoulder 33, edges (43), (45), (47) remaining straight to the rounded extremity 41 of the member. A large number of closely spaced annular ridges are formed on the faces 35 and (37) which ridges are triangular in crosssection. In a first modification of the working portion 29 of the member 25 two additional parallel working faces (51) and (53) Fig 14 (not shown) are interposed between the inclined faces 35 and (37) and the edges (45) and (47), and in a second the cross-sections of the member 25 in the plane parallel to the shoulder 33 are generally rectangular and the working faces (54) and (52) Fig. 17 (not shown) are concave in longitudinal section, the end furthest from the shoulder 33 being semi-circular in configuration. A further modification is similar to the embodiment of Fig. 5 but instead of the face (39) there is formed a cleft (61) Fig. 18 (not shown) thereby forming two diverging thin flaps (63), (65).
